About the Project
GEMS is the grateful recipient of a Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada grant for our Capacity Building & Strategic Planning Project! From October 2024 until March 2026, we will undertake an exciting project with an aim to ensure GEMS has a robust plan for the longevity and sustainability of the organization in the long-term.
Through this 18-month project, GEMS will address the organization's need for training, updated policies and practices, and a focused organizational direction. The project will include a review and update to human resource policies, development of financial sustainability strategies, board and staff training, upgrades to operational systems, and strategic planning.
The aim of this project is to enable GEMS to continue to sustain itself and withstand adversity, in order to keep serving our beloved community. The project has started, and a Project Manager, Debbi Lynn Salmonsen, has been hired to work with our staff and board teams and stakeholders, to ensure the grant outcomes and deliverables are achieved.
Debbi Lynn Salmonsen brings extensive experience in the non-profit sector as an Artistic and Executive Director in the arts and social services, and led two large Canadian music festivals over the last decade. As well as serving on various non-profit boards, she worked as a trainer and consultant on a Carleton University/CRA project to train charities across Canada on best charitable practices and compliance.
Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada is committed to advancing equality with respect to sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression through the inclusion of people of all genders, including women, in Canada’s economic, social and political life.
